Acupuncture for Migraine Prevention

A recent study published in Cephalalgia found acupuncture to be more effective with fewer adverse effects vs. the drug topiramate for preventing chronic migraines. Migraine sufferers in the acupuncture treatment group experienced a drop in the mean monthly number of moderate-to-severe headache days from 20.2 to 9.8 days/month, vs. a smaller drop from 19.8 to 12.0 days in the topirmate group.

This study outcome correlates with my own clinical experience with using acupuncture to treat migraines. By combining acupuncture for migraine prevention with treatment of any contributory neck or allergic disorders, even better results in reducing migraines to negligible levels can be acheived.
