Orthopedic Acupuncture & Sports Medicine in Santa Cruz
Pain and injury shouldn’t keep you from the activities that make life better.
At Santa Cruz Acupuncture Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Clinic, we provide personalized care for orthopedic conditions, sports injuries, and musculoskeletal pain—with a focus on helping you move better, recover well, and return to the activities you love.
Serving the Santa Cruz community since 2003.

Move Better. Feel Better. Stay Active.
Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing persistent pain, or trying to stay active as you get older, treatment begins by understanding what’s keeping you from moving the way you want to.
We combine orthopedic assessment with acupuncture, electroacupuncture, manual therapy, and movement-based rehabilitation to create an individualized treatment plan based on your condition and goals.
Our approach is designed to support:
- Pain relief
- Injury recovery
- Improved mobility and function
- Return to sport and activity
- Management of persistent musculoskeletal conditions
- Prevention of recurring problems
Because the goal isn’t simply to feel better on the treatment table.
It’s to get you moving again.
Orthopedic Acupuncture for Active People
Treatment Designed Around How You Move
Orthopedic acupuncture brings together traditional acupuncture with contemporary knowledge of anatomy, musculoskeletal medicine, and injury rehabilitation.
Rather than treating every patient with the same protocol, we look at your symptoms, health history, physical findings, activity level, and goals to determine an appropriate treatment strategy.
Depending on your needs, care may include:
Orthopedic Acupuncture
Individualized acupuncture treatment for musculoskeletal pain, orthopedic conditions, and sports injuries.
Electroacupuncture
Gentle electrical stimulation may be combined with acupuncture when appropriate for pain, muscle dysfunction, nerve irritation, and injury rehabilitation.
Trigger Point & Myofascial Needling
Targeted treatment of muscular and myofascial areas associated with pain, tension, and restricted movement.

Cupping & Gua Sha
Manual techniques that may be incorporated to address muscular tension and soft-tissue restriction.
Sports Massage & Tui Na
Hands-on therapy used alongside acupuncture to support mobility and recovery.
Exercise & Movement Therapy
Individualized exercises and movement strategies to help restore function and support your return to activity.

Care for the Way You Live
From Everyday Movement to Weekend Adventures
Santa Cruz is an active community—and we believe healthcare should support the life you want to live.
We work with recreational and competitive athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, working professionals, parents, and active adults dealing with injuries and musculoskeletal pain.
That includes people who want to get back to:
Mountain and Road Biking
Recover from overuse, impact, and musculoskeletal injuries and return to the trail/road with confidence.
Surfing and Paddling
Address shoulder, neck, back, hip, and other problems that can interfere with paddling and time in the water.
Walking Hiking & Trail Running
Work through knee, hip, ankle, foot, and overuse problems that keep you off the trail.
Course, Field & Court Sports
Support recovery from muscle strains, joint injuries, tendinopathy, and repetitive loading associated with athletic activity.
Everyday Life
You don’t have to be an athlete to want to move without pain. Sometimes the goal is simply gardening, working, traveling, playing with your kids, or walking comfortably again.
Whatever your activity, the goal is the same: help you get back to it.
Meet Dr. Daniel Rola
Local Roots. Modern Orthopedic Care.
Dr. Daniel Rola, DTCM, L.Ac., is a California-licensed acupuncturist specializing in orthopedic acupuncture, sports medicine, and pain management.
Born and raised in Santa Cruz County, Daniel understands the role that movement and the outdoors play in the lives of the people who call this area home.
His clinical approach integrates Traditional Chinese Medicine with contemporary orthopedic and neuroanatomical approaches to acupuncture and injury care.
Daniel believes good treatment starts by understanding not only where you hurt, but how that problem is affecting your movement, work, recreation, and quality of life.
The objective is straightforward:
Reduce pain. Restore function. Help you move forward.
Individualized. Collaborative. Patient-Centered.
Every injury is different. Every patient is different.
Your care should be too.
We take the time to understand your symptoms, medical history, physical demands, and personal goals before developing a treatment strategy.
When appropriate, we also encourage collaboration with physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors, and other healthcare professionals involved in your care.
And when acupuncture isn’t the appropriate treatment—or when additional medical evaluation is warranted—we’ll tell you.
Our priority is helping you make informed decisions about your health and recovery.
